Andy Murray beats Raonic to reach Australian Open final

Andy Murray has beaten Raonic and will now challenge Novak Djokovic in the final.

Andy Murray is into his th Australian Open final but he had to go the long way round after Milos Raonic outplayed him in today’s semi-final. For the first time in history, Murray would join his brother Jamie as the pair became the first brothers to reach simultaneous Grand Slam doubles and singles finals in the Open era.

Andy told Jim Courier after the match that it was an “incredible” achievement. “Both my parents will be extremely proud I’m sure. There’s not many tennis players come out of Scotland. I never expected to be doing this,” Murray said.
“Neither of our parents would have expected us to be here so for us to both be in a Slam final at the same time in pretty incredible, and hopefully he can get the win tomorrow.”
Raonic’s serve has been his most dangerous asset all tournament, and it was no different on Rod Laver Arena. The No.13 seed delivered a 233km/h service to kick off the eighth game of the set, which proved simply too quick for Murray to get his racquet.

Now, Murray has to face Djokovic in the Grand Slam final to win the trophy.

Roger Federer issues apology for criticising Bernard Tomic and says he didn't realise tomic ranking

Roger Federer, a 17times grand slam champion, had said at the 23-year-old Tomic, touted as one of the up and coming generation of men tennis, was "far away" from reaching the top 10.
Tomic is the highest ranked Australian at 17, took umbrage at the remarks and then told reporters  that, as far as he was concerned Federer is "nowhere near" the level of world number one Djokovic.
Tomic was as highly ranked as he had the talent, "To be quite honest, when I walked out of the press room I thought I was somewhat tough, but at the same time I was fair because I said nice things about him," Federer said.
"But then I checked his ranking. I didn't know his ranking was as high as it was, to be quite honest. I thought he was like 50 or 60 and he was top 20. "That was my bad, to be honest."
However, Tomic lost to Andy Murray in the fourth round on Monday.
Here's what Bernard Tomic said to Roger Federer about his struggles against Djokovic:
"It's a big difference top-10 for a week or for a year or for multiple years, and getting there is not easy," he added. "It's a lot of dedication, a lot of hard work. There's a lot of guys who have the potential right now, not just him."
Federer, who practiced with Kyrgios ahead of the then 19-year-old's Wimbledon quarter-final run in 2014, added the world number 30 had "sick power" and could also go a long way if he could develop better control on the court.

Danish Kaneria confirms he didn't approach BCCI to help lift his ban

Banned Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria on Thursday denied media reports that he wanted to seek the help of the BCCI to take up his case with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

"This report is misleading. I did speak to an Indian reporter but I have been misinterpreted and I have no intention to seek any help from the BCCI for a fresh review of my case," Kaneria said.
"Yes I am very frustrated, hurt and against the wall but I remain a proud Pakistani. I just want to know what real evidence is there to ban me for life and why has the Pakistan board put my case aside," Kaneria said.

"No matter what happens why would I approach any other country for help. I can only again appeal to the PCB to give me a chance."
A report in the Indian media on Thursday quoted him as saying that he was being victimised since he was a minority Hindu in Pakistan and he would request BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur to ask President Shashank Manohar to take up the matter with the ICC board.
Danish said he just wanted one final chance to prove his innocence in a proper court or before a tribunal of the PCB or International Cricket Council.

Dhoni still best suited for the job: Hussey

Mahendra Singh Dhoni found backing from former Australia cricketer Mike Hussey, Hussey says the Indian captain was the most suitable to lead the team as he still has a lot of fire in his batting.
Dhoni has been facing a lot of criticism for not being able to perform the role of a finisher for a long time.
Hussey talks on dhoni

Huss said "I would back Dhoni to do the job and he has been doing it for so long now. He is best suited to handle most situations out there. People forget that it is not an easy job to do. You cannot just come in and smash every single time. You have got good bowlers, and they have gotten smarter, and they know what Dhoni's strengths are, so things will not always happen the same way."
"You can't expect him to do it every single time, and he has done well for India for such an amazingly long period of time. I would keep backing him to do this job for as long as he feels he can do the job. At the same time, India will be looking at their youngsters. In that situation, it would be ideal if they can bat with and around MS, and learn from him how to get through such situations," he said.
India has lost fourth matches in a row in the ongoing series but Hussey said the visitors have not fared badly.
"I think India have actually played some really good cricket. Look at all the four matches so far. They have consistently scored 300 runs every time, which is a very good effort. And Australia is a tough place to defend especially when the pitches are helping batsmen and rest assured these are very good pitches to bat on. The outfields here are fast and the big grounds also make it tough on visiting teams," Hussey said.
"But by scoring 300 runs consistently, they've given themselves a good chance to beat Australia. Unfortunately, they have been too good chasing them down earlier in the series, but if India keeps on doing this, they will eventually win," he said.
Hussey also found merit in Indian bowlers despite the fact that they have been treated by the Australian batsmen with utter disdain in this series.
"I actually rate the Indian bowlers highly. I like Ishant Sharma and in particular, I like Umesh Yadav, he is a very good bowler. The thing is it takes the time to get used to the conditions here in Australia, even when you have been here before. It happened last year with them, and they had a wonderful World Cup outing after that.
"And we have seen it with batsmen too. Someone like Shikhar Dhawan also struggled during the Australian tour and then had an outstanding World Cup. So it is a bit like that in Australia, for both batsmen and bowlers. It takes a bit of time getting used to but when that happens you really prosper."
Talking about the newcomers in the Indian side, he said, "It is a great opportunity for them to come out here and play. You never know how a player is going to react unless you give them that opportunity in the middle when the game is really on the line. We can really find out a lot about someone’s character then, even if the result does not go in your favour."
Hussey, who will be with the Australian team as a consultant during the first couple weeks of the World T20 in India, has seen most of Rishi Dhawan previously and was easily impressed with the youngster in the last two ODIs.
"I have seen a fair bit of him in the IPL. He is a good competitor and these pitches suit his style of bowling. He has that change of pace which comes in handy during the middle overs, especially with the rule changes. From India’s point of view, I hope he does well, as they have been searching for an all-rounder," Hussey signed off.
